Get the Roadmap for planning, designing, and building a high-performing manufacturing facility
Expanding a manufacturing facility is one of the most complex investments a company can make – and the decisions that determine success happen long before construction begins – often before a site is even selected.
From early manufacturing facility planning and site selection to design, permitting, and execution, the path from idea to a production-ready facility involves a series of interconnected decisions. As a result, many manufacturers ask: “Where do we start when planning a facility expansion?”
Without a clear roadmap, projects can quickly face delays, cost overruns, and facilities that don’t fully support long-term operational goals. That’s why we’re joining MACNY for an upcoming session—and sharing the roadmap we used to plan, design, and deliver Bluefors’ advanced manufacturing facility.
VIP is joining MACNY for an upcoming session—and sharing the roadmap we used to plan, design, and deliver Bluefors’ advanced manufacturing facility.
Bluefors’ Advanced Manufacturing Facility and Expansion
The VIP – Bluefors collaboration began with VIP serving as both developer and Design-Builder for Bluefors’ new 76,500 SF advanced manufacturing facility, completed in 2019. From site selection and due diligence to early space and power planning, permitting, and construction, VIP led every step with a focus on transparency, alignment with operations, and setting the foundation for future growth.
The building was intentionally designed for easy expansion, enabling Bluefors to scale without disruption as industry demand increased. When Bluefors needed to expand its operations several years later, VIP delivered a 35,000 SF addition—completed in 2024— that increased Bluefors’ production capacity by 45% and integrated seamlessly with the original facility.
Across both projects, VIP’s integrated Design-Build approach ensured speed, consistency, and value— delivering the original facility ahead of schedule and the expansion with alignment to Bluefors’ evolving needs. This ongoing relationship showcases VIP’s ability to design and build facilities that not only meet today’s requirements but anticipate tomorrow’s growth.
