The Jon Diaz Community Center is a dream, and now reality, of NFL running back and Onondaga High School alumni Latavius Murray. Named in honor of his late childhood friend, Jon Diaz, the new 41,500sf Community Center offers amenities for the youth of Nedrow, Murray’s hometown, to come together in a safe place and play, grow, and learn outside of school. With a focus on athletics, the Jon Diaz Community Center features play areas, a gymnasium, basketball courts, and fields — all things that Murray had to travel by bus to access when growing up.
Designed with modern architectural elements, a light-filled lobby, and contemporary finishes, but facility sends a message of strength and upward growth to the community.
The facility, designed and built by VIP, is expected to break ground in late 2023 and open in 2024.
