Built in 1910 on Syracuse’s West Side, the two-story Italian Renaissance-Revival house has been used for commercial purposes since 1942. After sitting vacant for a number of years, Pathfinder Bank had the vision to establish a new branch there, originally enlisting VIP Architectural Associates to complete a condition survey and determine the idea’s viability.

Upon completion, it was determined that the structure was suitable to meet the bank’s programming needs, and VIPAA’s team began the process of completing the historic preservation Part I and II submissions.

VIP’s architects, engineers, and construction team worked to restore the 100-year-old mansion to its former glory. Many of its historic features were exceptionally restored and well-preserved including extensive woodwork, stained glass windows, stretched fabric wall coverings, fireplaces and exterior corbels and masonry. This project breathed new life into the former residence of pharmaceutical mogul George C. Hanford, which was designed by famed Syracuse Architects Archimedes Russell & Melvin King. Careful attention, detail, and planning ensured the project maintained the architectural integrity of this 1910 Italian Renaissance Revival house.

“With VIP, we have found a viable partner with whom we have had continued success. We are happy to maintain this partnership and, in doing so, are looking forward to continuing to provide the Syracuse market with their financial service needs,” said Pathfinder President, James Dowd.
