Community and Company Culture at VIP

With the implementation of strategic planning years ago, we realized our employees had a direct role in our success and we wanted to introduce more employee events to create a community culture. We believe that a successful business has happy and satisfied employees.

Looking back at 2017, it was a year full of fun events. Here were some of the highlights:

In April, we had a group of employees volunteer their time to help the Downtown Committee with cleaning up downtown for Earth Day. Focusing on a certain area, they were able to clean a significant amount within just a couple of hours.

We held our annual company party in the first weekend of June. For the 3rd consecutive year it took place at Beak & Skiff Apple Orchards. It was a fun evening for employees and significant others to enjoy food & drinks, live music and games. A “Cornhole” (bean bag toss) tournament was held with prizes going to the top team. We also recognized employees with yearly awards.

For the second year in a row, we put together a team for the J.P. Morgan Corporate Challenge in early June. Although the weather was less than cooperative, we had a great showing including some top runners! And afterwards, everyone stuck around for some warm food before heading home to get dry.

From June to early September we had “Summer Lunch” every Friday. This was held outside in our courtyard and was an opportunity for employees to spend lunch with coworkers who they might not normally get a chance to see. Each week we had a different employee volunteer to be the “Grillmaster,” cooking up hot dogs and hamburgers, etc.

At Halloween we hosted our 3rd annual office “Trick-or-Treat” event. Employees brought their young children dressed in costume to the office to “trick or treat” at each desk. People really got into the spirit of things with festive decorations and even costumes. It concluded with pumpkin decorating and a party.

For the last number of years during the holiday season, we have participated in the Tops Supermarkets Food for Families campaign, benefitting the Food Bank of CNY. In 2017, another group of employees volunteered to design and build the food structure – a slice of pumpkin pie with a glass of milk.

We hope that this year will be another rewarding one for all of our employees and look forward to the 2018 event calendar!
