VIP’s Adaptive Reuse of a Former Industrial Landmark

VIP’s adaptive reuse of Syracuse’s former Post Standard building continues to gain regional attention, with the Central New York Business Journal’s (CNYBJ) Revitalize Syracuse special publication highlighting VIP’s progress on the second phase of redevelopment.

The feature, titled “VIP Building Apartments in 2nd phase of The Post Redevelopment,” spotlights the progress and value of the 72 market-rate apartments currently being constructed within the former production and distribution areas of the old newspaper facility.

VIP’s design-build crews working to build new apartments inside The Post, the headquarters of VIP Structures. The effort represents the second phase of the company’s work to repurpose the building, which was once home to The Post-Standard newspaper.

This phase moves the building one step closer to a fully realized mixed-use destination. The CNYBJ captured it well: the project “preserves the building’s industrial identity while positioning it for the way people live and work today.” That balance—honoring where a building came from while making it relevant for decades to come—is the heart of adaptive reuse.

The building branded as The Post is now the headquarters of VIP Structures, which is constructing 72 apartments as part of the second phase of the adaptive reuse project.
Adaptive reuse projects are no small feat and often come with hidden conditions, challenges, and system constraints that require rapid coordination and responsive project management. VIP’s integrated design-build team’s creativity, efficient problem-solving, and adaptive reuse extensive experience is key to the progress and success of the redevelopment.
As the design-builder and developer, VIP is leveraging an integrated delivery model that unites their in-house architecture, engineering, construction, and development teams under one contract. This streamlined structure accelerates project timelines and ensures alignment from initial feasibility through final occupancy—an advantage particularly valuable in complex and multi-phase adaptive reuse projects.
