A timber frame structure is a time-honored building method that uses heavy timber beams and traditional joinery to produce a wooden structure that is durable, beautiful and sustainable. Timber frame structures have been around for thousands of years. Craftsmen took great pride in fitting together massive timbers so skillfully that they continue to inspire a “wow” factor today.
In 1998, our design-build team had the honor of being part of a project that continues to showcase the beauty and craftsmanship of this time honored method of construction. The Lodge at Welch Allyn delivers a “wow” factor as soon as you step foot onto the campus. Its soaring interior space draws your eye to the massive timbers that frame the structure. Care was taken to utilize natural elements throughout the project, and large windows that flank a natural stone fireplace bring the outside in. The rustic charm of The Lodge does not fall short of modern technologies, offering a 250-seat lecture hall, executive boardroom, and event space for 350.
