The Rosamond Gifford Zoo is a recognized national leader in animal care, research, conservation, and the protection of endangered species. To support and advance this mission, the Zoo, together with Onondaga County, engaged VIP Architectural Associates (VIPAA) and IPD Engineering to design a state-of-the-art animal health clinic that meets the rigorous standards required for Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) accreditation.
Our team collaborated closely throughout every phase of the project, from initial kickoff and conceptual design to test fits, construction documents, bidding, and construction administration.
The new facility includes advanced laboratories, examination rooms, and surgical suites. It also features interactive educational elements, offering Zoo visitors a rare glimpse into the world of veterinary medicine. A large transparent barrier provides expansive views into surgery and lab spaces, allowing guests to witness firsthand the exceptional level of care and commitment provided to the animals.
In addition to enhancing animal care, the Rosamond Gifford Zoo’s new medical center will serve as a learning hub for veterinary students, practicing veterinarians, and researchers, creating new opportunities for hands-on education and collaboration.
Beyond this project, VIP Architecture has also partnered with Onondaga County on a wide range of public library initiatives. Over the years, our firms have provided term services across numerous branches, working both together and independently in various architectural and engineering roles to meet the unique needs of each community library.
