Project Details

Delivery Method:  Design-Build
Owner:  Skaneateles YMCA
Total Size:  105,000 SF

VIP Structures designed and constructed the Skaneateles YMCA & Community Center in 1996. The 105,000 SF recreational center features two ice rinks, four swimming pools, a pro skating rental shop and large community/flexible rooms.

The second ice rink was added to the facility in 2015. VIP’s original design inception considered this future addition so the building and grounds were designed to be easily expanded upon. The new rink is NHL size with a seating capacity for 800 people and was built on a sand base in order to be a functioning ice rink year-round. This also allows the original rink, which was built on concrete, to be used in combination during the winter and thawed during warmer months to be used as flexible play space.

The indoor swimming center features multiple pools – a 25-yard/8 lane pool, a zero-entry pool, a water slide and plunge pool, a spa, and Waterworks, a fun playground with water spraying and dumping equipment.

Other features of the recreation center include a childcare center, concession areas, locker rooms for the pools and ice rinks, administration offices, and meeting rooms. All of the structural steel used in this facility was galvanized to protect it from the high moisture environments within.
